We’ve gone back and spoken to students who completed the Discover Social Sciences programme and who decided to stay at Sheffield for their degrees. Here’s how Melisa answered her 5 Minutes, 5 Questions.

What are you studying?
I am studying Law, the straight LLB course provided by the University of Sheffield.

Where are you from?
I am originally from Sheffield, but I still chose to move away from home whilst studying – although it is daunting, the experience is like no other; I would highly recommend moving out and into student accommodation.

Why did you take part in the programme?
I took part in it because the experience and the skills the course gives you are amazing, and for a reduced offer at a world-leading university, it would have been foolish of me not to take part.

What was the best thing about the programme?
The mentors were the best thing about the programme. They are students at the university all studying different things. They not only help you with the tasks that were set but they can also talk to you about uni life and what to expect. It was very motivating.

What is the best thing about being a Sheffield Student?
The best thing about being a Sheffield Student is being inspired by others whilst learning with them – it is like one big community; everyone is learning new things and everyone is educating others. It is great.
