We’ve gone back and spoken to students who completed the Discover STEM programme and who decided to stay at Sheffield for their degrees. Here’s how Mitch answered his 5 Minutes, 5 Questions.
What are you studying?
I am studying a masters Physics (4 year course) currently in third year (as of September).
Where are you from?
I am from Hoyland Common in Barnsley and was brought up in chapeltown, Sheffield.
Why did you take part in the programme?
I took part in the program because I didn’t know at the time what I wanted to study and even if I wanted to go to University and I saw the program as an opportunity to help me decide what to do next.
What was the best thing about the programme?
The best thing about the program for me was the variety of different workshops there was for us to try and therefore make an informed decision on what I wanted to do.
What is the best thing about being a Sheffield student?
The best thing about being a Sheffield student is the variety of clubs and activities you can do and for me the location to do a lot of these activities. The other thing about the University is the quality of the teaching staff and researchers who are always willing to talk to you about their research and the current projects they’re working on.
