As US in Schools – Mentoring coming to a close for 2016/17 there has been another double helping of Mentor of the Month winners for March. Nathan Wright is a new mentor for 2016/17 and is hoping to return in 2018/19 following his year abroad. Here’s how he answered her 5 Minutes, 5 Questions:

SONY DSCWhat are you studying?
German and Linguistics. I also study the Dutch language as a module within Germanic Studies. I get to take a year abroad as part of my degree.

Where are you from?
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Grew up and based in Bedford, UK.

Where are you mentoring?
Fir Vale School

Why did you become a mentor?
I am interested in teaching languages and saw mentoring as valuable experience. I have already used this experience to apply for teaching opportunities on my year abroad.

What is the best thing about mentoring?
Working through problems with mentees often involved me having to face the same challenges, whether is was handwriting, fractions or developing a growth mindset! I also was taught Urdu by my mentees, which has really helped me to further broaden my linguistic horizons.
