We’ve gone back and spoken to students who completed the Sheffield Outreach and Access to Medicine Scheme (SOAMS) programme and who are about to start their degrees here at Sheffield. Here’s how Jack answered 5 Minutes, 5 Questions.
What are you studying?
I am studying Medicine.
Where are you from?
Pontefract and I Studied at New College.
Why did you take part in the programme?
To make myself a better medicine candidate and improve my chance of getting a place at Uni. As the first member of my family to apply to university, the advice on offer was invaluable.
What was the best thing about the programme?
Mock MMIs were one of the most useful activities the program offered. Not only did they allow you to practice answering questions, but crucially, receive feedback on your answers, allowing you to identify weaknesses that needed improving.
What are you most excited about university?
To study something I’m passionate about with the people I’ve already met through SOAMS, along with many more new ones, and to have fun doing it!
